Addressing the Mining for Change conference in Johannesburg on Tuesday the 7th, Julius suggested the government can use the mining licensing process to grab mines. He reckons that a proposed state mining company should grab 60% of any mining company when the mining permits comes up for renewal (depending on which license is being referred to this can be as little as every 2 years).

Julius is no stranger to facepalming incidents. He seems adamant that the ANC led government should nationalise mines - despite this not being ANC policy (by his own admission at that!). The ANC on a previous occasion had to set investors' minds at ease on this issue, stating that the ANC is not planning to nationalise any mines.
